Analytics in Sports

I was never good with numbers and constantly found these rogue examples in statistics to be overwhelming. My teacher was one of the basketball coaches and noticed my difficulties understanding his course material. One day after class he told me to stay after, and what I thought was going to be a lecture about my grade turned into a friendly conversation about college basketball. As a huge basketball fan I knew every statistic of the college teams I followed. We talked about shooting percentages, turnover ratios, and plus minus averages for players. After that he flipped the script and explained to me how I had just mastered the class he was teaching within the conversation of basketball analytics. It was then I realized this class was not going to be my downfall, and maybe I could not only pass but excel. Every class from then on we’d catch up on the niche details of players stats that involved math. Because of Mr. Wylder efforts to specifically help me overcome my struggle and noticing that basketball was the answer to this he instilled the confidence in me to get an A in his class.
